About the role

RSPCA Dakabin Shelter is looking for an experienced and dedicated veterinary Nurse to join a small team of dedicated people in providing the highest standards of clinical care. The Dakabin Veterinary Clinic operates Monday – Sunday 7am – 5pm. This role will best suit someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment where each day is varied and is passionate about collaborating as part of a team. Domestic and wildlife patients are admitted to the clinic via members of the public, RSPCA animal ambulances, Community Outreach program, Inspectorate and internal transfers from regional shelters.

  • Provide stability and leadership in the day-to-day operations within the Dakabin vet clinic team.
  • Hospital equipment and stock levels are maintained and ordered as needed.
  • Provide both medical and surgical nursing care to animals in the care of RSPCA Qld.
  • Perform routine laboratory and pathology tests.
  • Assist Veterinarians in handling and treating of animals.
  • Administer routine veterinary treatments and medications.
  • Triage incoming animals and prioritizing daily tasks to ensure efficient running of the veterinary clinic.
  • Assist with basic Veterinary Reception duties such as data entry, booking appointments and maintaining up to date and accurate patient records.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of the hospital is always maintained.
  • Attend RSPCA events including Community activation days, microchipping events and fundraising days. 


Who are we looking for?

  • A Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology (or recognized overseas equivalent).
  • Previous surgical nursing, emergency, and critical care experience with companion animals
  • Required 3+ years' experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well & multi-task under pressure in a high-volume, busy hospital environment.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written).
  • Excellent relationship building skills within your team and across departments.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, including high attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks within a busy work schedule.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Genuine interest in animal welfare and the objectives of RSPCA Qld.
  • Ability to perform physical duties including manual handling, and an ability to handle a minimum weight of 10 kilos.

This is a full-time position (possibility of part time for the right candidate) working across a 7-day roster based primarily at our Dakabin Animal Care Campus with opportunities to work across other RSPCA Queensland shelters as the need arises. This position will involve regular Saturday shifts. Remuneration is as per the RSPCA Qld Enterprise Agreement for Veterinary Staff (Certificate IV qualified or equivalent) with a starting pay rate of $28.57 per hour plus superannuation.
